What to Expect at a Candle-Making Session in King of Prussia

If you've never been to a scent bar before, the first question is usually: what exactly do I do when I get there?

Here's what a typical evening at Cork & Candles King of Prussia looks like — from the moment you walk in to the moment you walk out with a candle you actually made.

Before You Arrive

Book your spot in advance through our online booking system. Sessions are 90 minutes and run throughout the evening. Our flagship location at 255 Main St, Suite 150 in King of Prussia has plenty of parking — the garage and surface lots nearby are easy to navigate.

If you're bringing wine or beer, KOP is BYOB-friendly (wine and beer only — we ask guests to leave spirits at home). We also sell wine and craft beer on-site if you'd rather not bring your own. And yes, charcuterie boards are available — highly recommended.

The Scent Bar

When you arrive, your candle concierge will walk you to the scent bar. This is where the evening really starts.

You'll find over 60 fragrance oils arranged by scent family — florals, woods, citrus, musks, fresh, warm, and everything in between. The oils are numbered and labeled. You can smell anything, take notes, and mix samples on test strips to start building your blend.

Most guests spend 20–30 minutes here before they even think about committing. There's no rush.

Blending Your Scent

Once you've narrowed it down to two or three that feel right together, your concierge helps you figure out proportions. A dominant base, a supporting mid-note, maybe something unexpected up top. The goal isn't to follow a formula — it's to make something that smells like you.

When you're happy with your blend, your concierge mixes your oils into the wax and sets up your pour.

Pouring Your Candle

The pour itself takes about 20 minutes to complete (with cooling time). You'll choose your vessel from our selection of apothecary jars, label it with your custom scent name, and let it set while you sip, chat, and enjoy the rest of your evening.

By the time the evening wraps up, your candle is ready to go home with you. Same night.
